Carson City dog owners are expected to turn out Wednesday evening for a hearing on plans to limit residents to just three dogs.

Carson City Animal Services will conduct the hearing beginning at 5 p.m. to get public comment on the plan.

Current ordinances limit ownership to three dogs but allow people to get a permit for four or more. But city health officials say that conflicts with planning code that says keeping four or more dogs is a kennel, must be licensed as such and only allowed on property zoned general commercial.

The proposed change would eliminate the permits for more than three dogs at a residence.

Among those who would be affected by such a change is Gov. Brian Sandoval whose children have four dogs at the mansion.

The meeting will be held in the Community Center's Sierra Room.
