Winnemucca teen killed east of Fernley on Saturday

A 16-year-old Winnemucca girl died when her family's car rolled over Saturday morning two miles east of Fernley on Interstate 80.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Yesica Juanes was ejected from the Ford Expedition after it rolled over. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly before 9 a.m., troopers were dispatched after Jose Cruz Juanes-Chavez, 41, lost control of the vehicle while westbound on a lightly snowy road. After losing control, the vehicle headed toward the center median before rolling.

The other four passengers in the vehicle received injuries from minor to moderate. The four were transported by ambulance to the hospital in Reno and were discharged Monday.

Yesica Juanes, her 15-year-old sister and her 11-year-old brother were not wearing seatbelts and the 11-year-old boy was partially ejected from the vehicle. The girl's father and 41-year-old mother were both wearing seatbelts.
