Carson Valley Arts Council hosts exhibit of watercolors

The Carson Valley Arts Council will feature an exhibition of the watercolor paintings of Marge Buttles and Helen Martin, members of the Carson Valley Art Association. The exhibit will be up through Feb. 28 at the Copeland Cultural Arts Building at 1572 Highway 395 in Minden. CVAC will host an artists reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, with wine (for a donation) and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except for holidays.Buttles, born in Berkeley, Calif., grew up and was educated in the San Joaquin Valley and the San Francisco Bay area. She and her husband, Harold, moved to Carson Valley in 1992. She became a member of the Carson Valley Art Association as well as the Nevada Art Association and the East Fork Gallery. She mainly enjoys painting landscapes and old barns that pique her interest.Martin is originally from Santa Cruz County, Calif., and has been drawing and painting since she was a child. She and her husband, Dave, have lived in many places, including Western Australia, and have traveled extensively through Mexico, the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands. They now live out in Fish Springs on an old homestead that they’ve been renovating for the past seven years. Martin is a member of the Gardnerville Woman’s Literary Club as well as the Carson Valley Art Association, and is the editor of their monthly newsletter. For a contribution of $25 or more, donors will receive an original hand-painted pin or pendant by artist Pam Brekas, and have their picture taken.
