Cole McCarthy finished second at the Las Vegas Holiday Classic, leading the Senators to a tie for 11th place. More than 60 wrestling teams participated in the classic. “Any time you can finish in the top 15 of a tournament like this, it is a good thing,” coach Tim McCarthy said. Cole McCarthy, wrestling at 134 pounds, was pinned in the finals by Jesse Calderon of Indio, Calif. McCarthy won an 8-1 decision in the semifinal match.“Cole wrestled well,” the elder McCarthy said. “He just ran out of steam toward the end.”Jordan Luhrs was knocked out of title contention during his first match of the day in the 172-pound bracket. Luhrs fought back to finish in sixth place.“He wrestled a great tournament,” McCarthy said. “There are no easy opponents on day 2 of a tournament.“It was a good team tournament for us. We learned a lot, we just didn’t get the results we wanted in some cases.”Brady O’Keefe, who lost his first match on Friday, almost wrestled back, falling one round away from wrestling for a top 8 spot.Javier Torres won his first match of Saturday in the 197-pound bracket. He then was pinned to be eliminated. Kyle Sharp lost two straight at 122 pounds. He started the day in the title hunt before being pinned and losing a 5-2 decision to fifth place finisher Jordan Griffin of Chula Vista, Calif.Brady Rivera dropped two matches in a row in the 184-pound bracket. He lost a 6-2 decision and a 4-1 decision to be eliminated.Nicolas Lani lost his opening match of day two to be eliminated at 140 pounds. VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALLINCLINE 57, DAYTON 46Incline outscored Dayton 38-27 to top the Dust Devils on Saturday in Rail City Classic.Incline won 57-46. The teams were tied at 19 at halftime.Leading Dayton was Jake Turner with 10 points. Steve Thompson and Bernardo Macias added nine points apiece. Joey Doyle chipped in eight points.
