COMMUNITY: Fly tying classes scheduled

The Carson Fly Fishing Club is beginning a basic fly tying class on March 5, 9, 12, 16, 26 and 30 at 7 p.m. in the Ormsby Room in the Carson City Sheriff's Office, at 911 E. Musser St.

The purpose of the class is to learn basic techniques of tying different flies. No experience necessary. The flies for this class will be wooly worm, muskrat nymph, zug bug, elk hair caddis, royal wulff and hopper.

Stan Zuber has been tying flies for more than 25 years. He learned to tie flies while being a member of the Aguabonita Flyfishers in California. This will be the 13th year that the Carson Fly Fishing Club has presented this class free to the public.

Flycasters safety class is tonight

The monthly meeting of the High Sierra Flycasters will address a couple of topics important to people who fish the mountain streams and lakes.

First there is a presentation by Bob Macias and Nick Summers addressing streamside safety, First Aid, and common emergency situations.

The second presentation will be by Liz and Don Weirach of the Anglers Edge. They'll talk about equipment maintenance and preseason tune up. The duo also will talk about new gear. The equipment available for fly fishers increases constantly, and there are often significant changes, especially in rod and line technology.

Bighorns need host families

The Nevada Bighorns, a summer collegiate baseball team, is in need of host families for the upcoming season.

The team is expecting between 9 and 15 out-of-state players this season. Players start arriving the last week of May and the season runs through the first week of August.

Dayton's Taylor is honored

Senior basketball player Dylan Taylor was honored by his school for his accomplishments of the last two-plus years as a varsity basketball player.

Dayton honored senior athletes, band, cheer and dance programs on Senior Night.

With at least one game left in his career, Taylor has scored 1,017 points. He'll have a chance to add to that on Friday when Dayton hosts Lowry in a 3A playoff game.

Ross rolls perfect game, 823 series

On Feb. 9, bowling on the Thursday Men's Sr. Trio at Gold Dust West, James Ross bowled games of 299, 300 and 224 for a 823 series.

Carson Valley looking for members

The Carson Valley Men's Club is acceptng applications for memberships to its men's club for the coming season.

The first tournament is March 25 and the final event is Nov. 4. The dues are $55, which includes NNGA membership for the year. The cost is $45 for CVGC season pass members,
