Under the guidance of Tim McCarthy, the Carson High wrestling squad has been one of the most dominant teams in Northern Nevada.
The Senators, since McCarthy started his second stint as head coach, have won 20 straight dual matches en route to four straight Sierra League titles. Carson capped this year off by winning the 4A regional title and sending eight wrestlers to last weekend's state meet in Las Vegas.
So, it really comes as no surprise that McCarthy, on a vote of his peers, was named the 4A Coach of the Year.
Six of McCarthy's wrestlers - 106-pound Kyle Sharp, 113-pound Sammy Mercado, 126-pound Cole McCarthy, 152-pound Jordan Luhrs, 182-pound Nico Garcia and 220-pound Patrick Cooke - were named to the first team.
Five others - 120-pound Adan Ortega, 170-pound Brady Rivera, 195-pound Javier Torres, 132-pound Nicholas Lani and heavyweight Brayan Burgos - are on the second team.
All told, 11 of Carson's 14 starters were honored. Spanish Springs had 12 wrestlers honored.
