130 YEARS AGO

It is with feelings of profound regret and sincere sympathy that we announce the death of Charles C. Helm, 35, son of Alfred Helm. Mr. Helm had lived in Carson from boyhood and departed without a blot on his character. Unassuming and courteous in his ways, he immediately won the respect of all. Let us hope our loss is a gain in the realm beyond.

100 YEARS AGO

A new strike has been made in the West Comstock mining (Jumbo) district with ore going at $250 per ton from a vein four-feet wide at 60-feet. On the Quien Sabe property Mr. Campbell is rapidly approaching with a long tunnel a series of large veins that have an outcrop on the surface.

70 YEARS AGO

The 19th annual convention of the Nevada State Press Association will convene in Mackay Hall at the University of Nevada with President Walter Cox presiding. The general theme will be "Nevada Newspapers and the War."

50 YEARS AGO

The question of whether a top local amateur team can beat a team of touring professionals will be decided Thursday night when Murdock's faces the Harlem All Stars for the March of Dimes.

After 35 years in law enforcement, Al Baumruck is retiring from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
