Carson City to standardize reporting transactions from pawnshops, secondhand stores

Carson City supervisors hope to refine an ordinance pertaining to pawnshops and secondhand stores when they meet Thursday.

The sheriff's office has the authority to determine the method used to report all transactions that those types of businesses engaged in on the previous day.

Currently, each business uses its own template and method of submitting such information, resulting in a backlog of tickets that have not yet been entered into the sheriff's office system.

A business impact statement has been prepared showing that the ordinance does not impose a direct or significant economic burden on a business or directly restrict its operation or expansion.

In other action Thursday, supervisors are scheduled to:

• Approve final payment of about $938,000 to A&K Earth Movers for the East-West Water Transmission Main Project, Phase 1.

• Give final approval for the sale of water and sewer bonds.

As the Liquor and Entertainment Board, officials will consider approving Vidalia Ramirez as the liquor manager for the Rodeo Night Club at 298 E. Winnie Lane.

• The Open Space Advisory Committee meets at 6 p.m. Monday in the Sierra Room of the community center. Members are scheduled to elect a chairperson and vice chairperson, hear from the public about the Ash Canyon to Kings Canyon proposed trail, accept a monitoring report for the Horsecreek Ranch Conservation Easement, accept a budget recap report for about three months, recommend to supervisors a work program outline for 2012 and activities report for 2011. • The Planning Commission meets from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Sierra Room of the community center. The commission is scheduled to consider a request from Virginia Erskine for a five-year review of a previously approved special use permit to allow the continued use of two metal storage containers on property zoned retail commercial at 3129 S. Carson St. It also will decide whether to recommend to supervisors an application for abandonment of public right of way from Lumos and Associates for John and Frances McGinnis to abandon seven feet of right of way adjacent to North Walsh Street and eight feet of right of way adjacent to East Caroline Street at 601 and 613 N.
