Governor Grant Sawyer proclaims Jan. 1 as Foster Parent Day in Nevada to help double the number of overseas children aided by the Foster Parents' Plan. "This great experiment in direct door-to-child giving stars its 25th year of service to child victims of war and want in Europe." (Foster parents do not legally adopt.. they provide $15 a month.)

Harold Holder is the new owner for Sharkey's Nugget in Gardnerville. Holder purchased the casino from Milos "Sharkey" Begovich who had run it for 31 years.
