ROUNDUP: Carson wrestlers second in Livermore

LIVERMORE - Carson High's wrestling team finished second at the Livermore Mat Invitational at Granada High School on Saturday.

College Park-Pleasant Hill won the 40-team tourney with 149 points, a half-point better than Carson's 148.50. Ripon was third with 137 points.

"It was a good mid-major tournament," Carson coach Tim McCarthy said. "It's a little disappointing to be so close and not win it."

Carson had two champs - Cole McCarthy (126) and Kyle Sharp (106). Both wrestlers went 4-0 on the day. Sharp beat a Jesuit wrestler 11-4 in th finals, while McCarthy pinned a Las Loma-Walnut Creek wrestler in the finals.

McCarthy, who has two tournament championships this season, was named the outstanding lightweight wrestler.

Nico Garcia (182) finished second with a 3-1 record. He was leading 5-0 in his final match, but suffered a third-round pin. Jordan Luhrs (152) was third with a 3-1 record.

Colby Brown (145) was sixth after going 3-2, while Adan Ortega (120) was seventh with a 4-1 record. Nicholas Lani (132) went 3-2, but didn't place. Austin Brown (138), Javier Torres (195) and Levi Carter (220) all went 2-2.

Dayton places 13th

SPARKS - Dayton High's wretling team placed 13th at the Sparks Tournament on Saturday.

Anthony Santana placed second at 170 with a record of 3-1, Joey Moore placed fourth at 220 lbs with a 3-2 record and Josh Joyner placed fifth at 285 with a 3-1 mark.

JV WRESTLING

Carson wins three divisions

SPARKS - Carson High produced three individual champions at the Spanish Springs Invitational on Saturday.

Kaleb Wold (106), Tristian Wadsworth (132) and Brayan Burgos (heavyweight) all came home with championships.

Joe Calderon (220), Anthony Estrada (126) and Sean Robles (132) all lost in the finals and finished second. Jose Galindo (220) and John Artz (106) both placed third.

Carson hosts a JV tournament Saturday at 9 a.m.

VARSITY GIRLS B-BALL

Sierra Lutheran falls

Samantha Jeffers scored 15 points to lead North Tahoe to a 44-15 win over Sierra Lutheran Saturday afternoon.

Tiffany Patrick and McKenzie Tynes led Sierra Lutheran with eight points apiece.

Sierra Lutheran is 0-2 in league and 2-12 overall.


FROSH BASKETBALL

Dayton girls win

TRUCKEE - Dayton knocked off Truckee 41-30 behind the 11-point effort of Lettie Lynch.

Makaila Marshall added eight points. Dayton is now 9-4 heading into Tuesday's game at South Tahoe.
