DAYTON - Hot-shooting Elko knocked off the Dayton girls varsity basketball team 74-37 Friday.
"Everything was falling for them," coach Cliff Serawop said.
Serawop was happy with the Dust Devils' ability to break Elko's press, but said the team couldn't buy a basket.
Taylor Hill, Marible Ledezma and Cora Mebius all finished with nine points. Ashley Hill added five.
Dayton, 8-7, hosts Spring Creek at 2 p.m. today.
JV BASKETBALL
Carson boys pound McQueen
Chace Baker scored 10 points to lead Carson to a 50-6 win over McQueen Friday in Carson.
Robby Miller and Andy Cooper added eight points apiece.
Carson girls beat McQueen
Skye Simpson scored 12 points to lead the Senators to 42-25 win over McQueen on Friday.
Gina Peacock had 11 and Keegan Allen added 10. Carson improved to 14-3.
Elko edges Dayton
DAYTON - Taylor Ingersoll and Cheyanne Strong scored eight points apiece in the Dust Devils' 39-35 loss to Elko Friday night.
Muranda Fowler added seven for Dayton.
FRESHMAN BASKETBALL
McQueen tops boys
McQueen knocked of the Carson boys team 43-35 Friday night.
Cameron Price led Carson with 15 points. Kyle Steele added seven points.
Carson pounds McQueen
The Carson freshmen girls team hammered McQueen, 53-18 on Friday. Maddi Preston led the team with 14 points; Michelle Perry and Natalie Young added eight. Also playing well were Abbey Dudley, Erica Gallegos, and Teresa Boehmer
Carson improves to 12-3.
Dayton boys rally
The Dayton boys freshmen basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit to beat Elko, 62-58.
Ty Pearson scored eight points in the fourth quarter including six straight free throws to seal the win. Julio Meza stole a late inbound and scored on a layup as time ran out.
In girls action, Elko won 57-18.
