130 YEARS AGO

Dear Editor: While walking the railroad track from Carson to Empire, while passing the grounds of the shooting club, my attention was attracted by the whistling of a bullet. While on my way a second whizzed by. Then a third whirred in such close proximity, it hit the track in front of me. This impels me to call attention to the danger to life if the shooting club is kept in its present locality. Respectfully, Benj. Edson, Empire.

100 YEARS AGO

Nevada people read in interest the story of Comstock fruit stand vendor Bozo Gopcevic, a capitalist from San Francisco, who claimed to be a real prince. Bozo, with his brothers Milos and Petar are waiting the result of a revolution in Montenegro. It appears that Bozo is the "only true and rightful heir to the throne at Montenegro."

70 YEARS AGO

The new fire siren for Carson City received its first test on both air raid and clear signals. Although the blasts were heard throughout the city, many residents said the alarm was not as loud as they expected.

50 YEARS AGO

Vance Lippincott was named Chamber of Commerce "Man of the Year" before civic leaders at the Carson Hot Springs last night. In making the presentation, Chamber president Robert (Bob) Rigler said Lippincott's interest in the community was outstanding.

20 YEARS AGO

Maria Blevins is named the 35th Miss Carson City at the Carson Community Center.

10 YEARS AGO

DNA analysis of a syringe found under an old house east of main street in Virginia City hidden for 125 years shows the syringe was used for morphine and at least four people, men and women.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
