Carson City Little League team tops Carson Valley to stay alive

Brandon Gagnon's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Carson City 11-12 All-Stars a 4-3 victory and some revenge against Carson Valley on Saturday at Governors Field.

Carson Valley, which sent Carson to the consolation bracket last Saturday, was eliminated from the tournament, while Carson City advances to a 7:30 p.m. game today.

Landon Truesdale reached first to lead off the fifth after a bad throw on a bunt by the Carson Valley catcher. Jerry Thomas followed with a single that put runners on first and second.

Carson Valley recorded the first out of the inning when Zach Harris' bunt bounced up and hit him. After a pitching change, Kyle Glanzmann legged out an infield hit to load the bases for Gagnon.

Gagnon's single plated Truesdale and Thomas, but Glanzmann was thrown out at third trying to advance on the throw.

Glanzmann came on to pitch a scoreless sixth to preserve the win.

Carson Valley took a first inning lead after a pair of walks and some wildness from Carson starter Ethan Good. Good, however, settled down, throwing into the third inning.

Carson City's Abel Carter tried to give the home team the lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Joe Harris robbed Carter of a possible two-run homer with a nice catch at the fence.

Good left the game with one out in the third after Carson Valley reached on a walk and an error. A wild pitch put runners on second and third before Good departed.

Daniel Morrison entered for Carson City and surrendered a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 Carson Valley lead.

Carson was finally able to score off Carson Valley starter Brandon Caras in the bottom of the fourth.

Gagnon led off the inning with a single. He advanced to second when Carter was called out on a close play at first. Good then singled to left field, scoring Gagnon. Carson Valley tried to cut down Gagnon at the plate, but the ball got away from the defense, allowing Good to score and tie the game.

Carson Valley fought back to take the lead in the top of the fifth. Lake Saladis doubled and scored on Hayden Brown's double. Brown tried to score on Levi Bell's single but was gunned down at the plate. Harris' throw from left went to shortstop Glanzmann, who then threw a strike to Carter at home for the final out of the inning.
