Carson teen singer to appear on Dr. Phil

For Carson City's Grant Davis, this is a busy week filled with sessions in a Los Angeles recording studio and appearances today and Wednesday on TV.

"Since he's been having so much luck and success, we're staying here now," said Grant's mother, Angie Davis, speaking from LA about their whirlwind of activity as the 15-year-old performer advances his budding career.

She said the singer-songwriter-musician was working on an adult-contemporary music album in an LA studio even as she spoke via cellphone Monday about his progress and their imminent appearance on Dr. Phil shows.

The shows are scheduled for today and Wednesday and are billed "Is My Child A Star?"

"They're just going to show what it's like to try to get into the entertainment business in Los Angeles," she said.

Events to date please them and they eagerly await the shows, which were taped in April, as well as the outcome of the album in progress.

"So far, so good," she said. "He's only 15. For now, the doors are opening."

The TV shows today and Wednesday are scheduled to air on Reno's Channel 4 at 3 p.m. each day. Results won't be known until then, but Grant was among those featured on a Dr. Phil website trailer. At one point, he can be heard saying: "Dancing is not my forte."

Grant's burgeoning career was furthered when he went with management company Iconique Music Group, which is headed by Guy Eckstine. Eckstine is a Grammy-winning producer and the son of well-known Big Band era band leader Billy Eckstine.

Earlier - but not much, when you consider he was 14 then - the teen went from performing before a small group at the Carson Nugget to one week later performing on a Broadway stage, which was followed a bit later by another New York City appearance at Madison Square Garden for a Jingle Ball concert.
