Reno ends Carson's run

Reno American was finally able to shut down the Carson City 11-12 All-Star team's offense.

Three Reno American pitchers held Carson City to six hits en route to an 8-5 win in the District 1 consolation bracket Monday night.

Reno American will play Reno National in the consolation bracket title game at 7:30 tonight at Governors Field.

The loss ended Carson's tournament. Before Monday's loss, Carson had made a valiant run through the consolation bracket, winning four games in four nights.

Early on Monday, it looked as if Carson was going to continue its run, as it took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

Jerry Thomas and Landon Truesdale reached on a single and a walk, respectively. After an out, Kyle Glanzmann walked to load the bases. Thomas would score Carson's second run of the game on Brandon Gagnon's sacrifice fly. Truesdale would give Carson the 3-2 lead when Glanzmann got caught in a run down.

Reno cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the third off Thomas, who started for Carson.

Thomas would depart in the fourth inning after giving up the lead on a two-run homer to Reno's Alec Crosby. With Reno leading 4-3, Gagnon came in to pitch and retired the side.

After Carson was retired in the bottom of the fourth, Reno put the game away in the fifth.

A walk, a triple and a wild pitch gave Reno a 6-3 lead. Two more walks and a throwing error gave Reno a 7-3 lead.

Carson then brought Jayson Artz into pitch for Gagnon.

Artz gave up a pop fly single that the Carson defense misplayed, putting runners on first and third with only one out. Reno would add its final run on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the fifth, Carson tried to fight back. Carson put runners on first and third with two outs, after a pair of walks and a pair of fielder's choices, for Daniel Morrison.

Morrison singled home Gagnon to cut the lead to 8-4, but Ethan Good was tagged out when he overran the bag at third to end the inning.

In the sixth, Thomas reached on an error that allowed him to go to second. He went to third on a ball and scored on Nico Salm's groundout. Glanzmann singled to put runners on the corners, but Carson's bats ran out of juice.

On Sunday, Carson stayed alive with a 14-11 win over Sparks Centennial.

Glanzmann picked up the win. Good homered twice, a two-run blast in the first inning and a three-run shot in the fifth inning.
