A 39-year-old Reno woman was crushed to death by horse at a rodeo at Fuji Park Saturday night.

Miriam Morales was with her family and their dancing horses at the rodeo when she was riding a horse that was sick, said Carson City sheriff's Detective Sal Acosta. It bucked far enough to fall over backward, crushing her with about 1,200 pounds in front of her 7-year-old daughter, he said.

"(It was a) tragic accident," Acosta said. "The horse shouldn't have been there in the first place" given the state of its health.

The death is not being investigated as criminal, he said.
