Children's home honors Strande for 30 years of service

Johanna Strande, a registered nurse, was recently honored at Eagle Valley Children's Home for her 30 years of service. Strande began working at EVCH in 1992 as a patient care aide and pursued her degree in nursing while working full time.

Upon graduation, she continued as a staff nurse and has been director of nurses for nearly 15 years.

Eagle Valley Children's Home was opened in 1946 in the former Eagle Valley Ranch homestead. An expanded facility was built in 2004 that provides 24-hour nursing care and therapy services to children and young adults with severe disabilities. Eagle Valley Children's Home is a fully accredited intermediate care facility for the mentally retarded (ICF-MR) and is the only facility of its kind in Nevada. Eagle Valley Children's Home also offers respite care to families of disabled children and operates The Workplace, a vocational training program.

Strande lives with her husband and three children in Carson City. Her interests include biking, traveling to visit family in Germany, and volunteering at her children's schools. Eagle Valley Children's Home is proud of Strande's record of service and appreciative of the high standard of care she delivers to its clients.

Adams Foundation gracious to Boys & Girls Club

Tremendous thanks to the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation.

They matched donations that were made to The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada at a barbecue held by Board Member Dr. Joseph McEllistrem and his wife, Dr. Lisa Keating.

Their match brought the total raised from Joe & Lisa's annual party to more than $34,000.

The club is very fortunate to have such caring and generous supporters that allow the Club to offer quality programs to our youth.

American Legion thanks donors for Girls State Tea

Recently, the American Legion Auxiliary Capitol Unit 4 held its annual Girls State Tea at the Governor's Mansion. Proceeds from the tea benefit girls state delegates from Carson, Dayton and Douglas high schools. This year, 12 delegates were selected based on leadership qualities both in school and in our communities. Girls State is an Americanism study program, and delegates are given information and gain exposure in the affairs of government that will increase their interest and usefulness as citizens.
