Pirch, Roethel capture Dayton Valley member-member tourney

DAYTON - Bill Pirch and John Roethel dominated the final round to run away with the Dayton Valley Palmer Club Member-Member golf tournament over the weekend.

The two-day, two-man, net 36-hole event was contested with four different 9-hole formats of scramble, best ball, Chapman Scotch and total score.

Pirch and Roethel won both the Chapman and total score nines in the final round to win by 6.2 strokes aggregate. Dave Goles and Kim Staley finished second overall with a strong first-round performance, winning the best ball and tying for first in the scramble with Don Harn and Bill Radtke. Harn and Radtke finished in fifth overall.

Also in the money overall were John Benkert and Dennis Hillyard in third, John Peters and Fred Saunders in fourth and Jason Clark and Cody Oden tied for sixth with Jim Crawford and Pete Howe.

Pirch and Roethel also tied for second in the best ball nine on Saturday with John Heibel and Gary Leiper. John Cowee and Jeff Miller were second in the Chapman Scotch and Benkert and Hillyard finished second in total score.


Final Pop Warner

Carson City Pop Warner football and cheerleading will be holding its final sign up for the 2012 season Friday, June 15th from 6 to 9 p.m. at Governor's field.

Pop Warner football is for players age 5 to 14 and cheerleaders from 5 to 15 years old. Those coming to the program for the first time will need to bring a birth certificate to sign up. Sign up forms and information are also available online at carsoncitypopwarner.com. Teams are currently being formed with practice starting Aug 1.


Menante, Sear win

Thunder club crown

Fran Menante and Steve Sear won the Thunder Canyon Member-Member tournament over the weekend with a score of 217.

On the first day, it was a Cha-Cha format and the second day was a Cha-Cha-Cha format.

Dave Westfall and Leland Sullivan won the Billy the Kid flight with a 232, seven shots better than Bruce Carl and Ray Badger. Mike Dyer and Dan Culbert were third at 240.

Alan Tack and Dave Mello won the Pat Garrett flight with a 222, three shots better than Bob Gates and Steve Archer. Mike Bennert and Bob Oglesby were third with a 226.


Last call for

chamber golf event

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce has issued a final call for its scramble golf tournament June 22 at Eagle Valley West.

Action begins at 1 p.m. The cost is $85, which includes a golf clinic, putting contest, golf, cart and a chicken barbecue. The cost just o attend the barbecue is $20.

Ford records ace

at Silver Oak

Paul Ford recorded a hole-in-one on the No. 6 hole at Silver Oak Golf Club.

Ford used a gap wedge on the 110-yard hole. Paul Cote, Will Keating and Tom Keating witnessed the shot.


Tennis camps at

Centennial Park

Diane Baker Roberts, Carson High tennis coach, is holdfing weekly tennis camps through the end of July at Centennial Park.

Players must supply their own rackets and water, and tennis shoes must be worn.

Boys or girls between 4 and 6 go from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Beginners aged 7-14 play from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and internmediate level players from 10-18 go from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The cost is $8 for the half-hour sesion and $15 for the 90-minute session.

Maxwell, Rogers team

for senior victory

Roger Maxwell and Mike Rogers combined for a net 60 to win the A flight of the Empire Ranch's Senior Men' Club scramble tournament at Wolf Run on June 6.

Richard Torak and Fred Coons were second with a 61.

Ed Rector and Bob Warzynski and Steve Scharfe and Dick Montoya tied in the B flight with 59s. Robery Willis and Ray Masayko won the C flight with a 59, while Jim Barnett and Richard Schnaible tied for second with 61s. Don becker and Ron Popp won Flight D with a 58, while the teams of Myron Carpenter and Dan Rodgers, and Peter Youngdahl and Richard Ziegler shot 62s.
