Little League signups start Saturday

Carson City Little League has replaced Babe Ruth in offering playing opportunities for youths between the ages of 13 and 18.

The dates for signups for the Carson City junior/senior/ big league program are:

• Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the indoor facility at Governors Field.

• March 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the indoor facility at Governors Field.

• March 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the indoor facility at Governors Field.

• March 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during tryouts on Field 1.

The cost is $70, and interested players must bring a birth certificate and a utility bill to show proof of residency.

All players are welcome regardless of experience.

Fishing fundraiser is set for Saturday

The High Sierra Flycasters fundraiser is set for Saturday at St. Gall's Patoral Center in Gardnerville.

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Angler's Edge at 1506 Highway 395, Gardnerville. The no-host bar opens at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m. Linda Sandstrom supplies the music and Todd Wilcks provides the dinner.

People who attend will be able to see the Weirach family's photo history of previous catches.

HSFC fundraising supports quality fly fishing in western Nevada and eastern California. The group sponsors fishing programs for veterans, for cancer patients and outings for children with cancer and their families.

Carson City pool players reach nationals

Alex Gutierrez and Ken Collins, both of Carson City, have qualified for the American Poolplayers Association's national singles competition by winning a regional competition on March 3 in Sparks.

The two players will be joined by the Reno duo of Jay Pritchett and James Eaton. A total of $280,000 in prize money is at stake. There are four different skill levels at the national event.
