JOIN offers Employment Preparation Workshops

Carson City JOIN will offer four classes on employment preparation running from Tuesday to Friday.

There will be one class each day from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday will focus on life skills; Wednesday is how to apply marketing principles when selling your abilities and experience to an employer.

Thursday will focus on resume building; and Friday is on interviewing skills.

Two authors to speak at NNDA breakfast

Authors Lance Jensen Richards and Jason S. Morga will speak about workforce diversity at the March 28 Northern Nevada Development Authority breakfast.

Doors for the breakfast open at 7:30 a.m., with food being served at 7:30.

It is scheduled to finish by 9 a.m. Cost is $20 for NNDA members and $35 for guests. Register by calling 883-4413.

Open house Friday for renovated building

Mike Richardson will host an open house for his newly renovated building at 504 E. Musser St. in Carson City on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Richardson began renovating the 15,000-square-foot building in December with the aim of eventually turning it into a high-end office building.

It is located one block from the Nevada State Library and Archives and other downtown government offices.

This very attractive building has great access to downtown and we're very excited to show it off to the public," Richardson said in a release.

Raffle prizes and refreshments will be provided at the event.

Waste Management named one of 'world's most ethical companies'

Waste Management, which operates in the Carson City area, was recognized recently as one of the world's most ethical companies for the fifth year in a row by the Ethisphere Institute.

The recognition goes to companies found to surpass others in the same industries in categories including litigation and regulatory infractions, their codes of ethics and investment in innovation and sustainable business practices.

Companies from more than three dozen industries were recognized, including 40 with headquarters outside of the United States.

"It is an honor to be recognized by Ethisphere for our strong corporate culture that values ethics, diversity and sustainability," said David Steiner, chief executive officer and president of WM. "As an industry leader we strive to operate in a way that contributes to the success of our business and the communities we serve. Pro-Dex wins motor contract

Pro-Dex of Carson City won a contract worth $27,745 to provide direct current motors to the Defense Logistics Agency's Defense Supply Center at Columbus, Ohio.
