Mammy Pleasant, something of a remarkable colored lady: Resides at 1661 Octavia St., San Francisco and came forty years ago from Philadelphia. She was born and reared a Quakeress. She invested $15,000 in real estate and enjoys an income of $2,000 a month from her various properties. During the Sharon trial the public got an idea that she was a "voodoo woman" in New Orleans. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact she is a practical sensible old lady. In her day she has taken in sixty homeless children and raised them. Her income of $2000 goes to charity.

70 YEARS AGO

Registering men and women: The fastest growing event is all-out registration and mobilization of man- and woman-power for vital war production jobs within a month. This program would mean thousands of individuals would go to new places and new jobs.

The space shuttle Columbia pilots passed the halfway mark. The weather is expected to be good for a landing on the desert highlands at White Sands, New Mexico.

Students at Bordewich-Bray are moved to temporary quarters due the presence of black mold. "We're looking forward to a new building - hopefully, the voters will go for it." according to Charls Marrin, teacher.
