Carson City's Tristan Martel has received Pop Warner's highest scholastic recognition as one of the 2012 All American Senior Scholars.

This designation is available to eighth-graders and above that have a 96% GPA or better for the prior school year. The All American Senior Scholar represents the top 2% of all Pop Warner participants nationwide with over 425,000 participants ranging from ages 5 to 16.

The award ceremony will be held at Walt Disney World on May 25-26. Martel, an eighthgrader at Carson Middle School, maintains an A average and is raising money to help offset the cost of attending the award ceremony. Those wishing to assist may do so by sending donations in care of Carson City Pop Warner, PO Box 1170, Carson City, NV 89701 (Memo: Tristan Martel Scholarship Trip).

Martel has participated in the Pop Warner program for seven seasons.

"I have been Tristan's coach for five seasons and am very proud of both his scholastic and athletic achievements," said Bret Andreas. "Very few participants receive national recognition and Tristan's accomplishments are a fantastic example of what the program (Pop Warner) embodies."

Martel participated in numerous outside activities including:

• The Science Olympiad where his 2 person team placed first in Tower Building and Buggy building, solidifying CMS' first place overall at last year's regional Science Olympiad held at the University of Nevada.

• Martel has received special recognition from the Office of Military Cooperation -US Embassy-Kuwait, for his dedication to education and family support during his father's recent deployment.

• Further, Tristan participates in the First Tee of Northern Nevada, CMS track team, St. Teresa's of Avila youth group and is a Make-A-Wish volunteer.
