COMMUNITY: All-star hoop double-header at Manogue

The annual all-star basketball game for graduating boys and girls has been scheduled for May 24 at 6 and 7:30 p.m. at Bishop Manogue High School.

Four Carson High players - three girls and one boy - will be represented at the game.

Emily Collins, Eliza Matley and Kaitlyn Holmes will play for the White squad coached by Carson's Todd Ackerman.

Dayton's Taylor Hill also was selected to play for the White squad.

Ty Keefer was named to play for Hug's Charles Walker, who will coach the White squad in the boys game.

Admission will be charged. The game is sponsored by the Norhern Nevada Officials Association and Local Sports Production, which televises local games on cable.

Willits wins race at E. Valley

Kevin Willits finished first at last week's AltaAlpina cycing race at East Valley.

Willits was timed in 20:06.00, well ahead of second-place Pike Reardon (29:07.00). Tyree Hodridge was third in 30:07. Bob Gagen won the B race in 30:07, while Alx Kuhlmer was second in 31:57 and Michael Bayer was third in 32:06.

Richard Stockdale won the C race in 32:40 with Simon Dzamoe was second in 33:21. Jim Killen was third in 33:39. Jim Harris won the D race in 34:46 and David Reilly waqs second in 36:35. Eric Jacobs won the junior race in 36:51 and Col Pinther was second in 40:01.

Thunder Canyon holds Cha-Cha-Cha event

Fran Menante, Saul Singer, Paul Ricciardi and Vern Hamilton combined for a 121 to win the Thunder Canyon Men's Club Cha-Cha-Cha tournament.

Bittman, Bryan Sample, Jim Copple and Mike Judge were second with a 124 along with Butch Cattanach, Buz Allen, Carl Baker and Ray Badger.

Joyce Powell, Lynn Greenman, Barbara Plymell and Kathy Archer won with a 122, while Elaine Colgan, Pat Gottschalk, Donna Schellin and LeAnne Crowell were next with a 125,

Jacobs wins Blind 9 at Carson Valley

John Jacons carded a net 31 to win Flight A at the vrecent Carson Valley Men's Club Blind 9 tourney.

Brian Burchett was second at 32 and Marc Menezes was third with a 33. Joe Morrison won Flight B with a 32, Brick Ludington was second at 34 and Matthew Budjako was third at 37.

John Carey won Flight C with a 33, two shots better than Jim Arens. Gerry Bing was third with a 37.

Rogers win Empire Ranch senior event

Mike Rogers shot a net 63 to win the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Club stroke play tournament on May 9.

Roger Maxwell and Dale Guy tied for second with 65s. Goeff Swan won B Flight with a 60, while Dennis Justin and Ed Rector tied for second with 64s. Randy Wegner and Dave Aalbers won C Flight with a 64. There was a three-way tie for third at 68. Marty Martinez won D Flight with a 61, four shots better than Gary Nick. Hans Ehrlin was third with a 70.

Cooper, Johnson tie at Silver Oak

Jason Cooper and Larry Johnson shot net 29s to win Silver Oak Men's Club Better Nine tournament.

Mark Cox was third at 31, There was a three-way tie for fourth place in Flight 1.

J.P. Penrod shot a net 27 to win the Flight 2. Paul Carrion was second with a 30. Bill Whitstone and Dennis Baughman tied for third at 31.

Keating foursome wins best-balltournament

Tom Keating, Buzz Wagner, Ron Tamori and Dennis Small combined to win the opening round of Silver Oak's Senior Men's Club best-ball event. No score was given.

Jim Zewan, Terry Thomas, Jerry Johnson and Tony Barbaria tied for second with Mel Younker, Wayne Feletar, Lee Gilmore and Bill Challenger .

Thunder Bowl is hosting day event

Thunder Bowl Speedway is hosting racing for motorcycles and quads Saturday at 1 p.m.

Gates open at noon with racing expected to start at 1 p.m.. The first entry is $40 and the second entry is $20.

Admission is $10 with kids under 5 being admitted for free.

CSYFL holding football, cheerleader sign-ups

Carson Sierra Youth Football League will be holding sign-ups for football and cheerleading May 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Governors Field Indoor Facility.

Carson SYFL is in its fourth year and competes with over 5,000 players within the Truckee Meadows/Northern Nevada area. Children ages 6-14 play with age peers under Nevada High School Football rules on 100 yard fields.

Practices start July 30th with the SYFL Experience on August 11. Games begin Aug. 25.

Carson SYFL is continuing to utilize the Carson High offense, defense and terminology.

Registration fees for football are $125 and cheer is $150. The players get to keep their integrated girdle, socks and they will receive a photo-mate picture and participation trophy. Financial aid and payment plans are available.

Carson High hosts fall meeting for parents

The Carson High athletic department will have an informational meeting at 6 p.m. on May 21 in the big gym for all parents and athletes interested in participating in a fall sport.

Topics to be discuss will be eligibility requirements, concussion testing and recovery, injury reporting and social networking/hazing.
