FIRE! George Kitzmeyer loses his building and has no insurance. Fire was discovered in the rear of Barclays fruit and confectionery store. Every man and boy who could find standing room piled in and grabbed something to carry across the street and place on the Capitol sidewalk, intentions were good but heaps of popcorn and candy filled in the street as carriers tumbled and sprawled in their hurry to do their best. The side wall of John Fox's building received full force. Water streams were turned into the fire and the old Curry pump was manned by willing hands. Even Dick Bender grabbed the pump and started a snake dance in his desire to stand in. No cause known for the fire.
