More than 1,800 Carson voters hit the polls on the last day of early voting on Friday. The 1,837 voters pushed Carson's total to 14,258 for the early voting period.

Adding in the 2,099 absentee ballots counted to date and 16,357 of Carson's 25,747 active voters (63.5) have already voted.

Statewide, half of active Nevada voters have already cast ballots during early voting in advance of Tuesday's general election.

In 2008, 56.23 percent of voters (14,610) early voted. In that election, 91 percent of Carson voters cast ballots. As of Thursday night, the secretary of state's office says 628,000 people - or 50 percent of active voters - have cast ballots.

Democrats statewide lead Republicans by about 41,000 in the number of ballots cast, either in person or by mail.

Of those who have voted in person, about 44 percent were Democrats, compared with 36 percent registered as Republican.

But Republicans have outpaced Democrats in absentee voting by about a 4 percentage point margin.

Democrats hold a 90,000 voter registration advantage statewide.

Nationally, about 25 million people have already voted in 34 states and the District of Columbia, either by mail or in person.

On Tuesday the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
