A chicken thief in office: Mr. Summerfield (district attorney) lived in this city on King street and occupied a house by Mrs. Hofer... who kept a number of fancy fowls and from time to time she missed them. It appears that they were trapped and stolen by Mr. Summerfield by taking an old cracker box and making a drop trap. Neighbors set watch on him and several eye witnesses saw him set the trap, strew corn, retire a little distance behind the corner of the house and watch for his prey. After catching the chicken he would quickly cut off its head and slip into the house, chuckling to himself on the way...
