Strange events at Episcopal sociable: At the Arlington House host Sherman threw his parlors and dining hall open to all guests and arranged the hall for dancing and refreshments, and the cozy parlors for whist parties... Before the church members began to arrive he placed a pack of cards on tables and allowed events to take place. Some graceless wag came early and decided to have a little sport at the expense of the church... taking three aces and a couple of jacks from one pack exchanging them with three queens and two kings from the other. High school pupils fill kit bags: Twenty-four kit bags for soldiers going overseas were made last week by pupils of the Carson City high school. In each bag: 8 small books, two packages of envelopes, 30 packages of cigarettes, two packages of playing cards, two bars of soap, four packages of razor blades, 34 packages of candy, 30 packages of gum, 5 packages of matches, four pairs of shoe laces, one box of tooth paste, and $4.28 in cash...

The green multi-armed tree sign will allow a group of Telegraph Square businesses to attract people to those stores that are off the beaten path and not easily located.
