RENO (AP) — The winds ahead of the winter storm that rolled into Northern Nevada Thursday night put a scare into some neighborhoods and forced evacuations when a brush fire broke out in Washoe Valley. Fire crews say they have about 50 percent containment of the fire. The fire that broke out about 12:30 p.m. Thursday northeast of Washoe Lake burned between five and 10 acres and destroyed at least two outbuildings, but no homes. It forced the closure of Eastlake Boulevard through the valley for more than four hours before crews dug in fire lines sufficient to hold the flames at bay.At one point winds gusting up to 60 mph were fueling the blaze near Clark and White Pine drives. But the winds subsided by mid-afternoon and precipitation from a storm behind the winds began to move into the area.
