Flaherty, Tillitt claim post season honors

Carson High's girls soccer team reaped the benefits of a 16-2-2 season by taking home two of the three post-season awards.

Senior forward/midfielder Kenzie Tillitt was named the Sierra League Offensive Player of the Year, while senior fullback Shannon Flaherty was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Tillitt scored a team-leading 20 goals for the Senators.

"She came out there with a team mentality for every practice and every game physically and mentally," coach Greg Lehman said. "She's a smart player and understands the game. What she sees out there a lot of players don't.

"Shannon is a smart player. She has a lot of speed. She's a great kid and a great player. She gets it done on and off the field."

Michelle Sandage was a first-team selection at midfield and keeper Emmy Heller was the first-team keeper.

Midfielder Kiahna Pimental and defender Lindy Lehman were second-team picks, while Jamie Perez was an honorable mention selection at midfield.

In boys soccer, Carson's Michael Samii was a first-team pick at fullback. Forward Francisco Barrios and midfielder Jon Guevara were second-team picks, while defender Zach Smith and outside midfielder Dan Zuber were honorable mention selections.

Carson's volleyball team, which claimed the last playoff spot in the Sierra League this year, placed senior setter Courtney Hack on the seven-player first team.

Libero Brooklyn Maw was a second-team selection, while McKenzie Price was an honorable mention pick.

Ellise McGowan and Katy Breeding were honorable mention selections for girls tennis, while Spencer Pringle and Nick Forbes were named honorable mention on the boys side.
