Edgar Sanford Mills of Minden, passed away peacefully Nov. 7, 2012 following a stroke. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on March 29, 1932. He leaves behind his loving wife, Sarah, of Minden; sons, Ron, of Gardnerville and Dan, of Capistrano Beach, Calif.; daughter, Lora, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; grandchildren, Marissa and David of Gardnerville; and cousin, Gladys, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In addition, are the hundreds of cousins throughout Canada and the United States that he met over the last fifteen years of genealogy studies. He was the son of Edgar S. Mills and Mary Pond Mills, immigrants from Newfoundland, Canada.
Ed and his wife, Sarah, (called Sally) spent most of their seventeen retirement years traveling, meeting new relatives, and enjoying visiting life long friends and relatives. Ed spent six of his formative years in the Panama Canal Zone where his father worked for the United States Government. He was a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. His active duty years in the United States Navy were served in south Fla. He spent his working life of 38 years as an Aerospace Engineer at McDonnell Doughlas Corporation in Calif.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Carson City where a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. The church is located at the northwest corner of Division and Musser Streets in Carson City. Fitzhenry's Funeral Home in Gardnerville is in charge of arrangements. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or First United Methodist Church of Carson City.
