Slur on Carson Churches: The Bodie Press casts an undeserved slur on the church fairs of Carson, stating that the lemonade and chicken salad of the church festivals are not up to the proper standard. As the only religious newspaper published in Ormsby County is the Appeal, we cannot let the opportunity pass to correct this malicious libel... There was a time when the Episcopalians were rather economical at the amount of sugar and lime juice put in their 10-cent lemonade, and the Catholics and Presbyterians made salad that was innocent of much chicken... but these churches have taken giant strides of progress since that time. A church fair in Carson is a thing of beauty and a joy forever to attend.

Unpardonable: The habit of profanity among women is increasing among those who "move" in what is called "good society." The emphatic oath and the blasphemous allusion to the deity is quite common. The woman who pollutes her mouth with an oath is unfit for wifehood or motherhood... and deserves to be shunned by every self-respecting acquaintance.

New Carson City post office: Carson's post office began as a log cabin next to the Rinckel Mansion on King Street. The new post office is now destined for a $2.8 million building in a block bounded by Washington, Plaza, Robinson and Stewart Street.

Scientists lit up cloud-seeding generators west of Lake Tahoe to increase snowfall from the storm moving in from California. Spokesmen from the Desert Research Institute said the generators can increase snowfall up to 15 percent.

Photo caption: The Greco-Roman-style roof structure on the east side of the Ormsby House known as a 'porte-cochere' was set to be removed by a huge crane. The project closed one southbound lane of Carson Street. The south-end addition includes a new porte-cochere and pedestrian bridge across Curry Street.
