A 140-pound cougar is on the loose in Carson City after someone cut the lock into the Greenhouse Garden Center's nursery area and absconded with the bronze cat.

The cougar, which retails for $2,800, was stolen between at 5 p.m. Nov. 12 and 7 a.m. Nov. 13.

"Nothing else was taken," owner Julie Ruf said.

The cougar has cracks on his left hip and is, according to the garden center, "slow moving and non-aggressive." It is a little over 3 and 1/2 feet long and about a foot tall.

A $200 reward for the cat for information leading to its return is being offered by the center, Ruf said. The cougar has been with the center for five years.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 775-887-7851.
