Walk intertwines exercise, art

Bounteous beauty greeted 13 walkers, both outdoors and inside art galleries Tuesday, during a fall trek to enjoy Carson City culture.The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department sponsored the special art walk, which was led by Donna Inversin of the Muscle Powered organization and attracted a dozen others. “It seemed a nice fall thing to do,” said Inversin just as the group left Artsy Fartsy downtown and began walking toward the Brewery Arts Center. “It’s really nice that we have this (art) in Carson City.” The walk began earlier at 3rd and Curry streets on a brilliant autumn day that turned warm as the morning and walkers progressed.During the two-mile walk, other stops included Great Basin Art Gallery and Framing, the Backseat Gallery inside Comma Coffee, BRIC Art 3 at the city’s Business Resource Innovation Center, the CCAI Courthouse Gallery at the courthouse, and the Nevada Arts Council in the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs offices. “We always have fun on these, wherever we go,” said Lou Skaggs of Carson City. “It’s nice to go and meet different people.”During the first stop at the Great Basin gallery, Rick Davis shared with the group names of artists with Northern Nevada ties whose works populate the walls, including works by his partner Jeff Nicholson.But Davis didn’t miss the chance to remind folks the framing business is an integral part of the gallery’s ongoing success.At BRIC Art 3, the exhibit that began Sept. 27 exposed the walkers to the works of Jill Altmann, Gus Bundy, Steve Davis, Andy Gallian, Mimi Patrick and Stephen Reid.The CCAI Gallery exhibit, which is sponsored by the Capital City Arts Initiative, gave the group a chance to see the large and arresting “Living in El Norte” show, which displays oils by artist Blanco de San Roman.Next stop was the Office Exhibition Series show at the Nevada Arts Council in the Washington Street Station building, which features “A Study of Human” prints by artist Eunkang Koh of Reno.Artsy Fartsy and the BAC offered multiple art works by various artists for the walking tour group as well. At the small Artsy Fartsy gallery, the crowd stuffed the place and Jeffrey Pace, one of the owners, grabbed his chance to remind folks holiday gift buying is just around the corner.The art walk was the final Parks and Recreation sponsored walk, but Inversin passed out fliers showing Muscle Powered walks will continue throughout the fall. The next one, beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, will be to Kings Canyon Waterfall starting from the east end of Kings Canyon Road.“This is an exception to the normal walks; this is on a trail, not level ground, and with some elevation gain,” the flier said.
