PREPS: Carson boys blank Galena, 2-0

RENO - Francisco Barrios and Jon Guevara scored a goal apiece to lead Carson to a 2-0 victory over Galena in Sierra League boys soccer match Wednesday afternoon.

After controlling the action for the first 25 mnutes, Carson got on the board in the 31st minute when a mistake by a Galena defender gave Barrios the ball, and he beat the keeper for a 1-0 lead.

Galena controlled the action the last nine minutes of the half, but failed to score thanks to the efforts of Zach Smith, Cruz Kerver, Adam Shoaf, Miguel Ortiz. Michael Samii, Daniel Zuber, Danny Limon and Nathan King.

Carson scored its final goal in the second half. Guevara played a wall pass, got the ball back and beat the Galena keeper.

"This was a total team effort," coach Mehdi Samii said. "The work of subs Robert Abundis, Billy Goulardt, Angel Gomez, Milton Rodriguez and Mario Escalante played an important role in the win."

Carson travels to Reed on Saturday.

• The Carson JV squad won 3-1 thanks to two goals by Francico Cabrera and one by Jon Limon.

Fernley edges Dayton, 1-0

FERNLEY - Fernley scored the game's only goal in the 26th minute and made it stand up for a 1-0 win.

"I thought we controlled the game in every way except the score," Dayton coach Karl Watts said.

Dayton had a chance to score, but had its penalty kick blocked.

Dayton plays Yerington today.

Muckers top Smith Valley

SMITH VALLEY - Virginia City knocked off Smith Valley 25-20, 25-20, 18-25, 24-26 and 15-11 in a Division IV match Tuesday night.

Jamie Poston finished with nine kills, five digs and three aces, Nikki D'Agotino had nine kills, four digs and five aces, Corinna Obermayr had five kills and six digs, and Nicole Huffman contributed 19 assists.

Lovelock tops Dayton

LOVELOCK - The host school rolled to a 22-25, 25-17, 25-19 and 28-26 win over the Dust Devils on Wednesday night.

Madison Foley and Ashley Vickers led the Dust Devils. Foley had 21 kills, three blocks and 17 digs, while Vickers had 15 digs, seven kills and five aces. Cora Williams had seven kills and six blocks. Taryn Schriner had six digs, while Lettie Lynch, Shannon Waski and Peach Coons added five each. Coon added two aces.

Yerington sweeps Fernley

YERINGTON - The Lions rolled to an easy 25-14, 25-14 and 25-21 win ovr the Vaqueros Wednesday night in a Division IA match.

Yerington is 19-6 overall and 2-1 in league.

Angela Sciarani had 14 digs and three kills for the Lions, while Kassidy Lommori had seven kills and three digs. Chloe Dane and Bailee Banta added 10 and 11 kills, respectively. Arcelia Arellano finished with six assists and five digs, and Savena Rogers had 12 assists and four digs.
