The Carson City Greenhouse will offer tours of its premises from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Carson High School campus, 1111 N. Saliman Road. To reach it, turn into the school property from Saliman Road at Robinson Street.

Participants will see food crops such as tomatoes and herbs, raised beds for flowers, solar panels, hot compost, hoop houses and more. Greenhouse manager Ray Saliga will present a workshop on propagating herbs from cuttings at 10:30 a.m.

The Greenhouse opened in early 2012 and operates under the auspices of the Carson City Cultural Commission and its Special Citizen Action Group. The project allows school children to learn the importance of sustainable living, provides fresh nutritious food free of charge to the food banks and helps get families, children, schools and the community at large reconnected with the outdoors. The Greenhouse grows and produces the hanging floral baskets that adorn downtown Carson City in the summer.
