Enjoy a motivational and inspiring evening with nanoscientist and professional athlete Grant Korgan on Friday, Oct. 19, at the University of Nevada, Reno. The event is presented by the Disability Awareness Coalition of Northern Nevada and is co-sponsored by Western Nevada College.Korgan, a paraplegic as a result of a 2010 snowmobile accident in the Sonora backcountry of the Sierra Nevada, will provide uplifting and empowering commentary during his speech in Nightingale Hall, beginning at 7 p.m.Since his spinal cord injury, Korgan has written a book, “Two Feet Back;” founded the Korg 3.0 Movement, and is featured in the documentary “The Push: A South Pole Adventure.”Although Korgan’s story is about survival and overcoming obstacles, his message to audiences now is about deciding what you desire out of life, focusing on what is working, and choosing the positive through adversity.“I believe that humanity’s natural state is one of possibility, greatness and, ultimately, love,” he said.According to Susan Trist, WNC coordinator of Disability Support Services, “The college has been actively involved in the Disability Awareness Coalition since 2006, and each year supports events across Northern Nevada to promote disability awareness.” A silent auction and no-host cocktails are from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Korgan’s keynote address is 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a book signing.A $5 donation is suggested.
