PREPS: Tillitt's header gives Carson a 1-0 win

Kenzie Tillitt headed in a ball off a corner kick in the second half to snap a scoreless tie and give Carson a 1-0 win over Bishop Manogue Tuesday night at Carson.

Carson is 10-0-2 entering Saturday's home match against Spanish Springs, the High Desert leader, at 1 p.m.

"Everybody had a great game," first-year coach Greg Lehman said. "Katherine Leist, Shannon Flaherty, Lindy Lehman, Jaime King and Bailie Zuber all played in the back row and did a good job."

Lehman also praised the play of Mayra Olivares and Danielle Sandage.

Carson played with three starters - Kiahna Pimental, Michelle Sandage and Alissa Hayes.

The first half ended in a scoreless tie. A couple of well-placed crosses resulted in scoring opportunities that Carson failed to convert. Carson had a couple of breakaways in the second half.

GOLF

Evans misses state berth by 4

STEAD - Carson High's Heather Evans missed qualifying for the Division I state golf tournament by a mere four shots Tuesday afternoon at Sierra Sage Golf Club.

Evans shot a second-round 91 for a 36-hole total of 177, four shots behind Douglas' Molly Jordan. Bishop Manogue's Carly Farthing was the top individual qualifier with 155. Galena's Kirsten Ortez (162), Wooster's Staci Ludwig (165) and Douglas' Koko Tereda (167) were the other qualifiers.

Taylor Krupp finshed with a second-round 97 and a two-day total of 188. Erica Gallegos was next with a 94 nd 192. Megan Goodale shot a second-day 92 for a 210. Callen Aten shot 96, also for a 210. Bethany Kniffen had a second-day 121.

McQueen and Spanish Springs moved on in the team competition with a 659 and 661, respectively. Douglas was fifth at 754 and Carson was sixth with a 757.

VOLLEYBALL

Reed sweeps Carson

SPARKS - Carson fell back to the .500 mark with a 20-25, 15-25 and 24-26 loss to Reed Tuesday night in a Division I crossover match.

Carson is 6-6 in league and 12-8 overall.

"It was a disappointing night with ball control off the serve receive and digging," coach Robert Maw said. "Courtney Hack and a few others played with their heart. Unfortunately this was not a tam turnout with the level of intensity required to beat an OK team.

"We will be looking at all the players in the next few days to see who is willing to step up and make a statement."

Hack had seven digs, 12 assists and an ace. Juliana Anderson had six digs, a block and two kills, and Savannah Smith finished with eight digs. Kammy Forrest had two aces, three kills and a dig with Danielle Good finishing with a team-high seven kills.

Virginia City sweeps

VIRGINIA CITY - The Muckers won their third straight conference game with a 25-16, 25-7 and 25-12 win over Excel Christian.

VC is 3-0 in league and 15-3 overall.

Jamie Poston had 10 kills, five aces and five digs. Nikki D'Agostino had six kills, two digs and two aces, Corinna Obermayr finished with seven kills, four digs and two aces. Nicole Huffman had 15 assists, three kills and two aces.

In JV action, VC won 22-25, 25-13 nd 15-11. The Muckers are 2-1.
