Wake Up! The comet is now a magnificent spectacle between four and five in the morning and is well worth the crawling out of a warm bed to see. At 4 a.m. the nucleus is below the horizon, but a broad shaft of light starts upward from the horizon like a pillar of gold.

State authorities have another chance to sent a man to the penitentiary for failure at suicide. Yesterday a Reno man tried the route by drowning, but the water was only four feet deep and he was rudely jerked to the county jail. Warden Cowing is just tickled to death every time he hears of a would be suicide. It is working fine, the new code.

Three members of the Nevada state highway department's bridge design force have been loaned to the U.S. Bureau of public roads for service on the Alaskan-Canadian highway. The men are E.T. Boardman, Tony Leone and Alan Odell.

Weld Arnold, a member of the University Board of Regents, world traveler and scholar died at his home today of a heart condition. He was 67. Paul Laxalt said Arnold was "one of those rare men who was always quietly there when needed. Without fanfare and without publicity he contributed to the welfare of his family and the community at a level unmatched by most.

Carson City Clerk Kiyouski Nishikawa said Wednesday he will be able to salvage a portion of Carson City's ballot and keep reprinting costs down in the wake of U.S. District Judge Ed Reed's decision forcing entities to add independent candidates to the ballot.
