The Carson City District Attorney’s Office filed a second-degree murder charge against a Carson City man in connection with an October 2011 heroin death.Angel Altamirano, 21, was already in the Carson City Jail on drug-related charges when he was charged Tuesday.Court documents allege Altamirano provided heroin to Brittany Rubke, although it is unknown if it was given or sold to her. Rubke took the heroin and had an adverse reaction that led to her death, according to the court documents. It’s unknown if Rubke overdosed or not.Altamirano “failed to render or seek necessary medical assistance for her in a timely manner,” according to the court documents. If Altamirano is convicted of second-degree murder, the alleged failure to seek help for Rubke becomes an enhancement to the conviction. The enhancement carries a term equal to the second-degree murder term and runs consecutively, meaning it begins after the original penalty’s term has been served, according to state law.Altamirano’s bail on the murder charge was set at $100,000.
