COMMUNITY: Eagle Valley wins two crowns

The Eagle Valley seventh and eighth-grade girls basketball teams both their respective titles at the TahNeva tournament over the weekend.

The seventh graders knocked off Alder Creek in the finals, 34-27. EV beat South Tahoe Middle School in the opener 27-17 and then knocked off rival Carson Middle 23-20.

The eighth graders, led by Josie Share's 13 points, knocked off Carson Middle 27-23. In the opener, Arianna Schmidt and Lauren Hudak scored eight points apiece to lead EV to a 33-16 win over Whittell. In the semifinals, EV smacked Pau Wa Lu 43-20 thanks to 18 points by Share and eight each by Mallory Otto and Anya Woodbury.

EV was 9-1 in league and 15-5 overall.


Tiny Mite Blue

wins Sagebrush title

The Carson Tiny Mite Blue (5-0-1) remained undefeated and won the Sagebrush League Pop Warner title with a 24-12 victory over the Fallon Greenwave during the weekend.

The Blue scored twice in the first half, with QBs Zach Guthrie and Alex Myrehn each scoring a TD behind the blocking of fullback Tyler Lafollette and guard Caid Milligan. The Blue defense shut out Fallon in the first half, with lineman Zach Lopez, end Josiah White and linebacker Damian Morris leading the way.

The second half was back and forth, with linebacker Alex Castillo and safety Eric Pool leading the defense. The Blue scored twice more in the second half, with Guthrie and Jessie Delgado scoring TDs following the blocking of center Jessie Metoxen and end Paul Perez.


Hala, Sanford win

CVGC crown

Roger Hala and Bruce Sanford combined for a net 57 to win Flight A at the Carson Valley Golf Club's 2-man Chapman championship.

G. Paulsen and Joe Morrison were second with a 64 and Charles Serafine and Daryle Lewis were third at 66.

Bill Holderman and Bill Centers won Flight B with a 65. John Carey and Gerry Bing were second with the same score. Larry Lockwood and Bill Allen were third with a 66.


Ace for Flanagan

at Silver Oak

Sarah Flanagan aced the 90-yard par-3 7th at Silver Oak Golf Club recently. Flanagan used a 7-iron for her shot which was witnessed by Janet Petrosky, Juniel Key and Lois Thiel.


Carson Middle girls 4th at

TahNeva tournament

Carson Middle School seventh-grade girls team took fourth in the TahNeva tournament.

Carson beat Incline 34-4 thanks to 12 points from Dajarrah and seven by Abbey Paulson.

CMS lost 29-24 to Alder Creek as Navarro and Paulson scored 10 apiece.

Carson went 9-7 overall.
