Kit Carson Toastmasters celebrate 55th anniversary

The Kit Carson Toastmasters Club celebrated its 55th anniversary on Oct. 17 at the Governors Mansion with an inspired, informative and humorous program attended by 50 current and former Toastmasters, District 39 dignitaries, and special guests. The Club, chartered in 1957, was the first Toastmasters Club in Carson City.The program began with an inspirational presentation on “Leadership By Following” by Tammy Westergard, deputy director for the Carson City Library. This was followed with A History of Kit Carson Toastmasters given by Fred Daniels, and then a Historical Perspective by Renate Daniels, who formerly was an International Director for Toastmasters International, and currently is a 35 year member of the Capital Nevada club in Carson.Norma Conway gave a presentation on being the first female admitted to the club in 1996, and discussed later becoming club president.Present Educational vice president Jim Klipp presented a vision for the future, while District 39 Governor Diane Bish presented the club with a District Recognition Award.The event was catered by John Hurzel, owner of Grandma Hatties.Toastmasters is an international organization dedicated to improving and developing one’s communication and leadership abilities.
