COMMUNITY: Tiny Mite Blue wins title

The Carson Tiny Mite Blue (7-0-1) capped off a championship season with a 36-12 win over the Carson Tiny Mite White to win the city title over the weekend.

Quarterback Zach Guthrie and wingbacks Alex Myrehn and Jessie Delgado scored first half touchdowns following blocking by linemen Tyson Oliva, Jessie Metoxen, Dylan Cooley, Caid Milligan and Wyatt Johnson.

The defense held the White to one TD, led by Daniel Alvarado, Quentin Beck, Julian Hazelton, Damian Morris, Eric Pool and Josiah White.

The second half was like the first, with Guthrie, Myrehn and Tyler Lafollette scoring touchdowns through holes opened by Drake Hardcastle, Paul Perez and Eli Locatelli. Defense again came up big in the second half, with Skyler Southwell, Zach Lopez, Alex Castillo, Brandon Bradley, Eddie Flores, Chris Borges and Isiah Ortega coming up with big tackles for the Blue.

Carson City's Dennis Brinson placed first in the 55-59 age group at the recent XTerra event in Kapalua recently.

The course is a 1.5 km rough water swim, a 30.4 km (18.89 mile) mountain bike, and a 9.5 km (5.9 mile) run.

Brinson beat 21 other competitors in his age group, finishing in 3:13.03.

well in Sparks

Silver State Gymnastics Academy's competitive team fared well in the Monster Mash Meet hosted by Gymnastics Nevada in Sparks.

In Level 3, Sara Mitchell had her best score on the balance beam to receive the bronze medal. Annika Bruketta had a strong showing on the floor which earned her a silver medal. In the B division, Riley Glynn won gold on the vault and floor, and placed third on beam to win the first place all-around (AA) medal. Josie McIntosh was third on bars, and Gracie Walt was second on beam.

In Level 4, Elle Liebendorfer led the charge by winning first place on vault, bars, beam, second on floor, and taking the first place AA. Only one point behind her was her teammate Elianna King who tied for first on vault, was second on beam, tied for second on floor, and third on bars. Right on her heels was Emily Lewis who won floor, was second on bars, and third on beam. The B division was dominated by Rosalia Daulerio who won gold on the vault and beam and silver on bars and floor to earn the first place AA. The C division was another sweep for the Silver State team as Alycia Hellwinkel won first on bars, beam, and floor, and third on vault on her way to first place AA. Hailey Glynn was second on vault, bars, and beam, third on floor, and took home the silver medal AA. Madison Adams soundly won vault, second on floor, and third on bars and beam to finish third AA. With a great showing from all girls, they claimed the first place level 4 team award.

In Level 5, Brenna Mitchell won beam, was second on vault and floor, and third on bars to win second place AA. Isabella Daulerio won bars and finished second on bars and beam to earn third place AA. Brianna Wiles won bronze on vault and beam. The group came in second.

Lily Reid was the lone competitor at level 6. She won vault and bars, was second on floor, and third on beam. She was second all-around.

Eagle Valley goes

3-1 at Optimist

Eagle Valley Middle School went 3-1 this past weekend to take third place at the Optimist Tournament held at South Tahoe Middle School.

The Eagles beat Martinez-California 36-29 thanks to 11 points by Arianna Schmidt and 10 by Josie Share. EVMS then beat Pau Wa Lu, 27-14, and were led by Schmidt with eight points and Mallory Otto with six. The Eagles only loss of the tournament came in the semifinals, losing to Martinez, 31-29. EVMS was led by Mallory Otto with eight points and Anya Woodbury with six.

The Eagles then beat Avery Middle School 29-24 to take third place. EVMS was led by Schmidt with 10 points and Molly Otto with 9.

EVMS finished their season with an 18-6 record.

Roscha wins Empire

Vic Roscha shot a net 61 to win the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Club stroke play tournament on Oct. 24

Terry Thomas was second at 65 and Cleve Dalen was third with a 68. Randy Wegner finished at 69 and Henry Ortiz had a 70.

Dayton championship

DAYTON - Jeff Miller shot rounds of 79 and 75 for a 154 total to win the Dayton Valley Palmer Club Championship under PGA Tour Qualifying conditions on Oct. 13-14.

John Cowee finished second, Andrew Palmer third and Brent Kidd fourth in the gross division.

Don Harn captured low net honors with a 2-under 142 total. Jason Clark and Jim Crawford tied for second with Jim Harrison in fourth and Sam Merchant fifth. Pete Howe and Alex Gentry tied for the sixth and the final spot in the money.

Tahoe City wins

Duncan Cup

DAYTON - Tahoe City Golf Club won the 2nd Annual Duncan Cup matches played over at Wolf Run and Dayton Valley recently.

Teams representing the courses operated by Duncan Golf Management played the Ryder Cup-style competition in threesomes. Six points were possible for each player on each team in match play both days.

Despite a dismal performance in Saturday's first round, the Dayton Valley team almost made an amazing comeback on Sunday. With only 13.5 points on Saturday, Dayton trailed Tahoe City by 19 points and Wolf Run by 12.5. But having home field advantage on fast and hard PGA Tour Qualifying greens proved to be huge for Dayton.

After seven of the eight final matches were complete, all three teams were tied overall with 45 points each. The final three matches with nine points at stake determined the final results. Tahoe City prevailed in the final matches to take the Cup (49.5) with Wolf Run second (48) and Dayton Valley third (46.5).

Smitreski wins

Ken Smitreski shot a net 49 to win Flight A at Carson Valley Golf Club's cross country event.

Dan Essary was second with a 51, while Marc Prause was third with a 56. Bruce Sanford won Flight B with a net 57, two shots better than Gil Causton. Jim Arena, Joe Morrison and John Pearson tied for third with a 61.
