Gov. Treadway says that if he should be elected he will infuse a new life of dignity into the Gubernatorial chair. It is just possible that the Farmer may prove to be a dark horse. It is stated that John W. Mackay will be absent from the state during the whole of the campaign. Senator Fair will also be conspicuous by his absence during the fight.

100 years ago

George Sontag, a member of the famous Evans and Sontag gang of California outlaws, who was pardoned by Gov. Gillett about three years ago after serving 15 years of a life sentence for train robberies is doing a vaudeville stunt in Goldfield. Sontag said his life of crime lasted some three years and netted him about 25 cents a day.

70 years ago

John A. Kramer was executed in the lethal gas chamber at the Nevada state prison. Dr. R.A. Petty, prison physician, listening through a stethoscope, pronounced the man dead at 5:59 when the last heartbeat was detected. Kramer went to his death without making any statement about shooting Mrs. Frances Jones to death after he met the woman on an Ely street Feb. 15, 1940.

The annual summer party for members of the Car-Val-Ta Shrine club is held at the grounds of the William Crowell home. Over 65 members and guests are in attendance.
