TOCCATA concludes summer’s MusicFest with Brahms’ pieces

TOCCATA-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will conclude its 2012 Tahoe Summer MusicFest with a concert series commemorating the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.Brahms is the focal point of the series Sept. 12-17 at various venues, which will come right after the anniversary of terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the abortive mission with a third commandeered airplane.The series features violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing Johannes Brahms’ “Concerto for Violin in D Major, Op. 77” on a legendary Red Stradivarius violin.The concert will conclude with Brahms’ “A German Requiem,” which is a symphonic and choral work performed with soloists Katharine DeBoer, Joy Strotz and Anna Helwing, sopranos, as well as Stuart Duke, baritone. It also features the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra Chorus.Maestro James Rawie, TOCCATA’s founder and artistic director, will conduct the performances.Tickets cost $30 for adults, $25 for seniors 62 and up, $5 for students aged 19-23, and preferred seating is available for $40.The concerts are Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Truckee, Calif., Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. at North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation in Tahoe Vista, Calif., and Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno.
