PREPS: Carson boots Hug, 6-0

For Carson High, it was more like an intersquad scrimmage than a real game.

Carson High ran up and down the field at will, consistently peppering the Hug goal with shots. Six got through and the Senators could have easily scored six more.

Kenzie Tillitt and Kiahna Pimental scored two goals apiece, and Jaime Perez and Shannon Flaherty added one each to lead the Senators to an easy 6-0 Division I girls soccer win over Hug on Tuesday night at Carson High School.

Carson, 2-0 in non-league play, hosts Galena at 1 p.m.

"It was like a field day for us," said Pimental. "We were getting our practice in; getting our touches in."

It may sound like bragging, but it wasn't. Hug managed just four shots on goal, three of them coming on penalty kicks from at least 30 yards away. Carson, meanwhile, had 28 shots on goal unofficially.

"It was good," said first-year coach Greg Lehman. "We got a little creative tonight. The girls were a little amped up tonight. Once they settled down and got in a rhythm ... I think they were excited to play at home in front of everybody. I don't think they overlooked anybody.

"The girls know we have a stretch of games coming up against Galena, Manogue and McQueen which will be pretty tough. We're just one game at time and working on what we need to work on."

Carson had a few good looks and a few good shots on goal, but it wasn't until Pimental scored in the 17th minute that the Senators finally got on the board.

"I got a good pass from Julie (Torres)," Pimental said. "The center back was riding me the whole time, but I was able to slot it in the right-hand corner."

Carson had three shots on goal after that, including two by Lorena Gomez. Tillitt finally broke through in the 23rd minute to make it 2-0, making the shot from well over 30 yards. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced down.

Pimental had a goal called back five minutes later because the official called an offsides, a call that the Carson staff argued to no avail.

Five minutes later, Tillitt scored her second and final goal of the night to give the Senators a 3-0 lead at the intermission.

"Kiahna and I linked up on the second one," Tillitt said. "She played a nice through ball to me in the middle."

Carson continued to pound the Hug net in the second half, but came up empty until Flaherty, normally a defender, scored in the 69th minute. Flaherty actually could have scored a hat trick because she had two other good scoring opportunities, but was unable to finish the play.

Chantel Torres appeared headed for a breakaway later only to have the ball stolen from here.

Pimental and Perez completed the scoring for Carson, both scoring inside the 2-minute mark.
