Tri-NET arrests Carson man

A Carson City man allegedly picked up his child from school on his way to sell drugs to an undercover agent.John Harris, 34, was arrested Aug. 30 after he allegedly sold and tried to deliver seven grams of methamphetamine to an undercover agent with his young child in the car.“Prior to the delivery, Tri-NET surveillance teams followed Harris” as he “picked up his minor child at a nearby school” before driving to the delivery point, according to Sgt. Mitch Pier with the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Investigation Division.Tri-NET and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team arrested Harris on three counts of trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, sales of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia ex-felon in possession of a firearm, child endangerment and having a child present during a controlled substance violation.The Tri-NET and Special Enforcement Team reported finding cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, 50 prescription pills, a gun and $1,450 in cash in his home. A total of 48 grams of methamphetamine were seized, with a street value of $4,800. The cocaine seized was worth $580, Pier said. Scales and packaging also were found, he said.Because Harris’ child was in the car when the alleged delivery of methamphetamine was to take place, a he also was charged with a special felony, and faces a minimum sentence of three years and a maximum of 15 years, with a maximum fine of $10,000. The Tri-NET task force is supervised by the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Investigation Division and is comprised of detectives from the Investigation Division, the Carson City, Lyon County, and Douglas County sheriffs’ offices and members of the Nevada Department of the Military Counter Drug Unit. The task force is supported by grants through the Office of Criminal Justice Assistance.Suspected drug related activity in Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County can be reported to the task force at 775-684-7440.
