PREPS: Carson boys lose hard-fought match, 2-1

The Carson boys soccer team dropped a hard-fought game to Galena, 2-1, on Friday. All three goals were scored on penalty kicks.

Carson coach Mehdi Samii said the game was physical with Galena gaining the upper hand in the first half. Carson matched Galena's intensity in the second half. Galena scored the game-winner in the second after. The game was tied 1-1 at the half.

Carson is 2-1 on the year. The Senators play at McQueen on Wednesday.

DAYTON BLANKS

DAYTON - Devon Cates scored twice to lead the Dust Devils to an easy 7-0 win over the Lions.

Dayton outshot Yerington 34-0.

Both of Cates' goals came in the first six minutes off assists by Maribel Ledezma and Brittni Anderson.

Isabel Villafana scored in the ninth minute to make it 3-0 and Erika McCoy scored in the 12th minute for a 4-0 lead. Ledezma and Gemma Rodriguez also scored in the first half.

Marlayna Martinez scored in the 65th minute assisted by Kylie Pack. Veronica Pritchard was praised for her defensive work.

TENNIS

CARSON BLANKS HUG

The Carson High boy's tennis team rolled to an 18-0 win over outmanned Hug Thursday afternoon at Carson.

Nick Forbes, Aaron Woodbury, Avery Whitt and Jake Jones won singles matches, while the teams of Casey Reid and Matt Boggs, Trevor Sollberger and Jace Zampirro, and Zack Simms and Jared Hearn won in doubles.

The remainder of matches were forfeits.

Dayton sweeps Lowry

Dayton continued to roll as it swept Lowry - 25-14, 25-20 and 25-22 - on Friday.

Madison Foley led the Dust Devils with 21 kills and three blocks; Lettie Lynch added five kills; Alyse Fletcher had 20 assists and two digs; Ashley Vickers contributed four aces, seven kills and six digs; and Taryn Schriner added seven digs.

Dayton, 16-1 and 2-0 in league, travels to South Tahoe on Wednesday.

CROSS COUNTRY

Dayton runs through

the water in Whittell

The Dayton cross country team ran on Whittell's hilly 3.1-mile course with six water crossings on Friday.

Coach Shawn Anderson said the Dust Devils overcame a few injuries on the boys side. Jamie Woods injured a knee and will be examined. Joe Law rolled his ankle during the race. Both finished the race.

Leading Dayton was Aaron Elissa who finished sixth out of 84 runners. He ran in 19:35.

Skyler Rose finished in 18th place; Nick Langstaff was 37th at 22:37; and Phillip Hevener was 46th in 23:28. All the boys, except Woods and Law beat their time from last year.

On the girls side, Katrina Breithaupt finished second out of 53 runners in 22:36. It was the sixth fastest time on this course since they have been keeping track in 2000.

In JV girls action, Hanna Elissa finished in fourth place completing the 2.3-mile course in 21:17.
