Three Carson City murderers set for parole hearings

Three convicted Carson City murderers will have hearings before the parole board in October.

Robert Gonzales, 74, is the longest serving of the three, having spent more than 26 years in prison.

Gonzales pleaded guilty to a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon in the death of his wife, Constance Marie Gonzales. She was stabbed repeatedly in the parking lot of Family Medical Center in May 1985.

In February 1986, Gonzales was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. In 2007, a judge commuted that sentence to life with the possibility of parole.

Gonzales has had parole hearings in 2007 and 2009, but was denied both times.

He has no other charges against him and, if the board grants, would be eligible for immediate release.

In addition, Brian Hearold, 41, and Ronald Davis, 46, will have hearings before the board. They were convicted of first degree murder in the November 1994 shooting death of Carl Dean Penrod. Davis also was convicted of kidnapping the victim from Douglas County and driving him to Clear Creek Road at Carson City's southern border, where he was shot in the head with a small caliber pistol.

Hearold has completed his other sentences and could win release from prison.

If paroled, Davis would begin serving the kidnapping sentence.

Both men have been in prison since September 1995, and each has previously been denied parole twice.

No specific hearing dates have yet been set for the three.
