Tillitt-led Senators top Manogue, 2-1

RENO — Kenzie Tillitt snapped a 1-all tie with a goal in the 64th minute to give Carson High girls soccer team a 2-1 win over Bishop Manogue Tuesday night. The win pushes Carson’s record to 3-0-1 heading into Saturday’s road game at McQueen. “We played well,” said first-year coach Greg Lehman. “It took us about the first 20 minutes to find a rhythm. We made a few slight adjustments at the half and I think we owned the second half.” Carson’s first goal was scored by Chantel Torres off an assist by Tillitt in the 49th minute, which tied the game at 1-1. Lehman praised the play of Michelle Sandage and Alissa Hayes. In JV action, Carson improved to 3-0 with a 1-0 win over Manogue. Josie Veneziano scored in the 52nd minute. Carla Reyes had a great second half in goal and Julie Torres also played well defensively.TENNISTigers edge CHS in tie-breakerMINDEN — The Douglas boys tennis team took a Sierra League tennis match from rival Carson in a tiebreaker on Tuesday.Douglas won the tie break 5-1 after the teams tied at 9-all.The doubles team of Casey Reid and Matt Boggs went 4-0 on the day for the Senators. Carson’s other doubles teams of Jace Zampirro and Trevor Sollberger, and Cory Gentner and Jake Trapp both went 2-2. Josh Breen and Nick Forbes picked up singles wins for the Senators. Carson hosts South Tahoe at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Shawnee McFadden had eight kills and 10 digs, while Jenna Broussard led the team with three block to go along with six kills and three aces.
