Boys & Girls Clubs hosting ski, snowboard sale

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada will be holding a sidewalk ski and snowboard sale Friday from noon to 6 p.m. at their clubhouse.

Gently used snowboards, skis, boots and poles will be available, and all proceeds will go directly to supporting youth programs at the BGCWN. Snowboards and skis will sell for $10, boots for $5, and poles for $3. For more information contact the club at 775-882-8820.

Capitals baseball squad

finishes in second place

The Carson Capitals U13 baseball team came in second place in the Labor Day tournament hosted by All World Sports.

Their overall record for the tournament was 2-3. They lost to the Jr. Cardinals and the Hard 90 Heat 6-0, both from California. They beat the Mavericks 4-2 and 8-6, and eventually fell in the championship game to the Jr. Cardinals, 11-8.

The Carson City Capitals Baseball program is a new travel baseball program that was established this year with four teams - a U10, U11, U12 and U13. For more information about them you can visit their website at CarsonCapitals.org

Members of the teams are Seth Houghton, Cole McDonald, Brandon Iwamura, Terrin Keller, Bryson Keller, Zack Schmidt, Wyatt Rooker, Ethan LePiere, Nolan Olson, Brett Pettersen, Kyle Glanzman, Chris Cunningham and Ethan Good.

CMS loses thriller

to Carson Valley

Carson Valley topped Carson Middle School, 17-15, in a 7th grade girls basketball game last week.

Dejiariah Navarro scored five points for CMS, while Abby Pradere and Katelyn Morse added four each.

Jenae Steele scored 10 points to lead Carson Middle School's 8th grade basketball squad to a 26-17 win over Carson Valley.

Carson improved to 3-0.

Anna Mercer scored seven points and Hayden Thom added five.

Anderson triumphs

at Thunder Canyon

Mary Anderson finished with a net 66 to win the Thunder Canyon Ladies' Club tournament on Sept. 14.

Kathy Archer was second with a 68, Barbee Waldren and Kathy Cockerill tied for third at 70, and Peggy Wilkinson was fifth with a 72.

On the men's side, the teams of Mike McGee and Bob Oglesby, Bill Stanley and Mike Judge, and Charlie Cockerill and Keith Gottschalk all shot won 106 to tie for first in the "2 balls 9 easiest holes and 1 ball 9 hardest hole" event.

Ludington wins playoff

for CVGC top spot

Brick Ludington topped Marc Prause in a playoff to win top honors in the A flight at Carson Valley Men's Club's stroke play tournament on Sept. 16. Both golfers shot net 71s.

Anthony Smokey and Bob Pemberton tied for third with 72s.

John Pearson won B flight honors with a 74, one shot better than Brent Holderman and Gerry Bing, and two shots better than Jim Arens.

Unlimited squad drops

31-0 decision

The Carson Pop Warner Unlimited Senators lost their home opener against rival Douglas 31-0 Saturday at Governors Field.

Carson was just not able to move the ball against a tough Douglas defense. Although the score didn't show it, the Carson defense played well despite a few lapses in concentration. Leading the defense were Conner Larkin, Sevon Mandoki, Adrian Michel, Jarod Butler, Nick Andreas and John Rowe.

Carson takes on the Sparks Wolfpack Saturday at 5 p.m. at Governors Field.

Tiny Mite Blue gets past Sparks

The Carson Tiny Mite Blue Pop Warner football team won its home opener with a come-from-behind 24-12 win over the Sparks Saints.

After allowing scores early in the game, the defense shut down Sparks the final three quarters.

The defensive line was stellar, with guard Josiah White, tackle Skyler Southwell and end Daniel Alcarado leading the charge. The offense scored through large holes opened by the line, led by guard Dylan Cooley and tackle Caid Milligan. Wingback Jessie Delgado, QB Zach Guthrie and wingback Alex Myrehn scored for Carson.

The Tiny Mite Blue improved to 2-0 on the young season.

Zogorski wins top

flight at Empire

Tom Zogorski shot a net 60 to win A flight honors for the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Golf Club on Sept. 12.

Fred Oleseck was second with a 64 and Roger Maxwell finished with a 67.

Bud Dick won Flight B with a 63, while Ray Plimpton and Jim and were next with a 64. Rich Bremenour won Flight C with a 62, followed by Randy Wegner 64 and Ron Lamb 65. Chris Nenzel won Flight D with a 61, while Bob Pluth shot 65 and Don Burge shot a 66.
